I have to a hard reset to unfreeze it. I've had a service chat with a Dell tech which was a waste of time. Al he did was a remote take over of the thing and do some firmware updates. When that didn't work and after another 45 minutes on the phone with another tech (this one in India), they sent a service tech to my home to replace the mother board. That didn't work either as I'm still getting freeze ups. I guess I either have to live with this annoyance or eat the $750 I paid for it and buy another HP.
